What Is Colocation?

Colocation places company-owned IT hardware — servers, switches, and storage — in rented space at a third-party data center. Instead of owning the entire building, you co-locate your technology alongside other businesses in a shared, enterprise-class environment.

Tenants supply their own equipment and connect it to the facility’s network infrastructure. The provider owns and maintains the building, backup power, cooling systems, and network access. You pay for the space, power, cooling, and interconnection services you use each month.

Colocation Services

  • Cabinets & Cages — secured spaces from single cabinets to multi-rack cages
  • Power — stable, conditioned, redundant power with generator and UPS backup
  • Cooling — precision HVAC and CRAC systems within tight parameters
  • Physical Security — guards, access controls, surveillance, and secure perimeters
  • Network Access — multiple carriers, cross connects, and direct tenant links
  • Remote Hands — on-site technicians for routine hands-on tasks

Frequently Asked Questions

Colocation refers to renting space for servers, networking equipment, and storage hardware within a data center operated by a third-party provider. Tenants supply their own IT gear; the provider manages the surrounding infrastructure.

Colocation provides physical access, control, and customization of owned hardware with predictable pricing. Cloud enables faster deployment of virtual resources with usage-based billing. Many organizations use a hybrid of both.

Retail colocation involves leasing a cabinet or cage in a shared facility. Wholesale colocation means renting an entire data hall or large suite with greater upfront commitment but more control and customization.

LOGIX operates data centers in major Texas markets: Austin, Houston, and Dallas — with 24×7 NOC monitoring and SSAE 18-audited, SOC compliant facilities.
